Deforestation
Imagine if a group of people with big bulldozers came and plowed down your house? What if in your house you made medicine to cure sick people and without you many people would die? Well, rainforests are being cut down everyday, and vital medicines and located there. Without trees, we may run out of oxygen. Forests extract carbon dioxide and pollutants from the air. Forests are cut down by a technique called slash and burn. Farmers do this to make room for their livestock and crops. This causes the soil to loose some of its nutrients, and makes it unable to ever grow forests again. People use the wood from the trees to create paper, furniture, and many other products. People take these items for granted, but soon the supply will be gone. I am a strong supporter of the computer because it reduces the amount of paper used. Many businesses use computers to bill people instead of mailing everyone their bill.
Many people think that deforestation is just a problem in the Amazon Rainforest. People do not realize that deforestation can occur anywhere and everywhere. Many countries in Africa, Australia and Asia are experiencing the same thing, and these forests are just as important to helping the environment. So next time you are about to throw out a perfectly good piece of paper, remember that someday paper will be scarce. The things we take granted today will be hard to come by 30 years from now.
